Shores of York was designed to be Virginia’s most exclusive and beautiful waterfront community. To achieve this goal only nine sites were crafted on Shores of York’s 70 acres, with each fronting on an unusually wide and pristine beach. Ranging in size from 2.5 acres to 15 acres, each estate is shaded by tall oaks and beech trees. Gentle, grassy slopes lead to the edge of the wide York River.

Careful architectural guidelines in place at Shores of York require appropriate waterfront architectural designs, such as porches facing the beach. These guidelines insure styles, quality construction and correct detailing appropriate to this exclusive setting.

The extensive planning of Shores of York has provided everything the community will need. From a hidden road to the beach, which allows access for maintenance and pier construction to a well-concealed area for boat trailers and off-site garages for overflow storage, every need has been addressed and no detail overlooked.

The unique park like approach to Shores of York is the result of each estate fronting on the water. Land that normally would have been interior lots was instead used to create the three equestrian estates and common areas to buffer the community from the outside world.

The atmosphere that has been created within Shores of York has been carefully designed by Higgins & Gerstenmaier, Landscape Architects. There is almost a mile of four board equestrian fencing complemented with lines of oak trees on either side of the street. Individual entrances were designed with stately stone columns and automatic gates. Each entrance is landscaped, irrigated, lighted and includes cobblestone paving.

The variety of design is evident in the various estate entrances, while there is a common grace conveying community and style at Shores of York. This understated elegance seen in the plantings, illumination, stone work and design, combined with an absolutely unique setting and beach-front view make Shores of York a community unlike anything you have ever seen.
